About BT

BT is a global communications services companies, providing telecom services in the UK and 170 other countries worldwide. BT activities consists of fixed-line services, broadband, mobile and TV products. It addition the company also provides networked IT services.

BT TV is a subscription IPTV service that was originally launched as BT Vision in December 2006. As of the end of 2015, BT TV has 1.4 million customers. In 2012 BT replaced its BT Vision box by YouView and in 2013 BT followed this up with the introduction of BT Sport – a sports package that is competing with Sky Sports. Via BT Sports, BT has secured a three-year deal to broadcast live Champions League and Europa League football matches.

BT’s YouView box is a hybrid box that combines Freeview TV with online TV capability, whereby video on demand and catch up TV services are delivered via IPTV. As video is delivered over the internet / IP, you require a BT Broadband and phone subscription. BT TV is offered as part of 3 packages:

  • BT TV Starter – This is BT base package that comes with a YouView box without recording capability.
  • BT TV Entertainment Plus – This package provides you with a YouView+ box which lets you record, pause and rewind live TV.
  • BT TV Total Entertainment – This is BT top package focused on premium HD channels. The package comes with a more advanced YouView+ box with larger storage capacity which will come in use when recording 4K ultra HD content.

To get the best TV experience a broadband connection with high bandwidth rate would be advised. The highest broadband rates are usually provided by fibre internet. Fibre is not available in all neighbourhoods, and as such you should consult BT if these packages are available in your post code region.
